Somewhere out there is another fellow named "Erik Fair." He used to write a regular column for Hang Gliding magazine in Los Angeles, and has written a few books, including one which is a collection of his columns from the magazine. He seems to make his living by risking his neck, and then writing about the experience afterward.

I became aware of him some years ago when I started getting questions E-mailed to me over the network about twice or three times a year, asking if I was him, and could I help with a hang gliding problem? Occasionally I wonder if he gets asked if he's me, and can he help with a UNIX or Internet problem?

He lives somewhere here in the San Francisco Bay Area, but I haven't run into him yet. Once, at a party a few years ago, a friend handed me a copy of the other Erik's book, "The Right Stuff For Hang Gliding." The picture of him I saw on the jacket showed a guy quite a few years older than me, with a thick brown beard & moustache, and glasses. I think it would be fun to meet him someday; perhaps by attending a book signing. I imagine that I'd just walk in and introduce myself, and watch his reaction.
