This month, LSA Technology Services appointed Anthony King as
our new DEI advocate. As we reorganize under our new name, explore
the relationship with our new partners, and evaluate the ways we
provide services to the LSA community, we have the chance to also
examine issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion that impact our
work. In his role as DEI advocate, he plans to help Technology
Services to:
- Use more inclusive language on, and address accessibility
issues for, our websites, documentation, videos, tools, and
communications.
- Apply the Universal
Design and Universal Design for Learning frameworks.
- Investigate whether we are recruiting from the same places,
in the same ways we always do, potentially limiting the groups
of people who are aware of our job openings.
- Look at issues of socioeconomic access to technology for
students beyond the LSA
Laptop Loan Program, and by working with instructors on
course design using new software and hardware, make sure it
doesn't place an undue financial burden on the student
population.
In addition, Anthony is forming a committee for DEI-related
issues in Technology Services. If you're interested in learning
more, please contact him directly at 734-615-0099, at arking@umich.edu, or in his
office (2014 MLB).
